4/10/2018–GOLDSBORO, NC–Cadets from across the Wing participated in the NC Wing's 5th Annual Drill and Ceremonies Academy in Goldsboro, NC on 23-25 March 2018. 130 students and staff attended from 30 squadrons making this the largest Drill and Ceremonies Academy to date. Maj Tony Overman of the Goldsboro Composite Squadron was the Academy's Commander.
The school was comprised of six cadet flights and one senior member flight. Cadets and senior members learned drill basics - everything from standing movements to marching. Cadets also participated in classes where they learned customs and courtesies and proper wear of the Civil Air Patrol uniform.
Among the flights were two color guard flights. Cadets in the color guard flights learned the proper way to carry the flags, hold the rifles, and proper American flag protocol, as well as drill. During classes they learned how to properly fold the American flag as well as the proper way to pass the American flag to another individual.
Saturday evening sunny skies gave way to rain as cadets and senior members gathered together for a BBQ dinner. Cadets and senior members alike were able to make new friends and catch up with old ones.
On Sunday family and friends gathered to watch the cadets show some of the skills that they had learned. In attendance was the North Carolina Wing Commander Col R. Jason Bailey. Col Bailey and Maj Overman presented awards to several outstanding cadets.
