Randolph Comp Squadron Holds Dining Out and Awards Ceremony

C/Capt Tyler J. Smith earns Amelia Earhart Award

6/19/2017––The Randolph Composite Squadron (NC-107) held their First Annual Dining-Out and Awards Ceremony on 17 June 2017. The ceremony was held at the NC Aviation Museum at the Asheboro Airport and was followed by a cadet dance. There were approximately 60 squadron members and guests in attendance. Lt. Col. Dwight Ayers gave the invocation and the guests enjoyed a delicious catered dinner.

NC House Representative Pat Hurley, along with assistance by Luke Mitchem and NC Wing Commander Col. R. Jason Bailey presented the Amelia Earhart Award to C/Captain Tyler J. Smith. Mr. Mitchem is the area Constituent Liaison for U.S. Congressman Mark Walker's office who was unable to attend due to recent events in VA and had to cancel unexpectedly. Mr. Mitchem also presented a letter written and signed by the Congressman citing the cadet's accomplishment by obtaining this achievement. Randolph County Sheriff Robert Graves was also in attendance and participated in this event with several words of encouragement for all cadets and the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program.
 
During the event, C/Capt Tyler J. Smith gave an account of his recent experiences at the NCSA Air Force Space Command Familiarization Course week-long activity in FL at Patrick Air Force Base, Cape Canaveral Air Force Space Command and the Kennedy Space Center.
 
Three other promotions were also awarded that evening for C/1st Lt Joshua Castro, C/Senior Airman Adam Stone and C/Senior Airman Karly Jordan.
 
The cadets and several of the guests enjoyed dancing and music after the official ceremony was concluded.
