3/8/2017––On the last weekend in February, the NC Wing held its annual Cadet Competition. There were five Color Guard teams representing their squadrons at this year’s event. These five teams participated in 11 events over the course of 2 days at Seymour Johnson, AFB, with Charlotte’s 111th Search and Rescue Squadron placing 1st overall. The second and third place teams were Boone Composite Squadron and Goldsboro Composite Squadron, respectively. The teams and individuals who placed first in their events were:

*Highest Score Written Exam: C/2nd Lt Olivia Althoff (Goldsboro Composite Squadron)

*CPFT (Individual): C/MSgt Anna Aldinger (Franklin County Composite Squadron)
 
*CPFT (Team): Apex Cadet Squadron
 
*Team Leadership Problem: (Tie) 111th Search and Rescue Squadron and Boone Composite Squadron
 
*Uniform Preparation: 111th Search and Rescue Squadron
 
*Speech: C/1st Lt Luke Muma (Boone Composite Squadron)
 
*Jeopardy (all-ranks): C/1st Lt Mason Berger (111th Search and Rescue Squadron)
 
*Jeopardy (newcomer): C/SMSgt Dylan Gulla (111th Search and Rescue Squadron)
 
Maj Michael Willis worked to make sure that the competition ran smoothly over the weekend. He had help from 4 Senior Members and C/1st Lt Blaise Thibodeaux as Cadet Commander overseeing 9 cadet staff. The cadet competition was pleased to have the NC Wing Vice Commander, Maj Ed Angelovich, attend the awards ceremony to present the trophies to the winning individuals and teams. Both the 111th Search and Rescue Squadron and the Boone Composite Squadron are working diligently to represent the NC Wing at the MER Cadet Competition at the end of March.
