Routine training sortie led to discovery

9/24/2015–– On September 23 an aircrew from the Halifax Composite Squadron on a training sortie located a vehicle underside down in the power line right of way adjacent to NC Hwy 46 in Northampton county near Gaston, NC.  The find was reported and the aircrew directed emergency personnel to the scene.

The vehicle was approximately 50 feet off the road in a ravine and was not visible from the road.  The air crew circled overhead and waited till the emergency personnel were on the scene. Using air to groun communications they directed a fireman into the power line right of way until the vehicle was seen.

Capt Anthony Green was the mission pilot, Maj Fred Draper was the mission observer and Maj James Newton was the mission scanner. After returning to home base the air crew learned that the vehicle they discovered belonged to a missing person who was last seen on September 10 and was the subject of a Silver Alert.
