Funds will be used toward purchase of POD Kit trailer for NC-170

7/6/2015–– A $1,000 Community Grant from Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation to NC-170 for calendar 2015 will help pay for a trailer to store and transport the squadron's POD Kit to training/exercise sites in North Carolina.  A BEMC $1,000 grant in 2013 was used to purchase the POD Kit for the unit.  The first BEMC grant in 2012 for $500 was used by NC-170 to enhance emergency preparedness in Brunswick County.

A framed CAP Certificate of Appreciation thanking BEMC for selecting NC-170 as a recipient of one of their 2015 Community Grants was presented by Capt. Gary Fischbach, Commander of MER-NC-170, on 16 June to Don Hughes,BEMC CEO/General Manager, at their corporate office in Shallotte, NC.

2015 marks the 13th year that BEMC has awarded community grants to fund programs for organizations in Brunswick and Columbus Counties.  The BEMC Community Grants Program makes grants to groups that provide family services programs, cultural and arts programs and emergency services or community development activities.  Competition for these annual BEMC grants is strong, with less than one-half of the many Brunswick County non-profit organizations applying for the grants receiving any funding.

NC-170, which will be six years old in August, continues to raise funds for squadron projects and programs through its involvement in Wreaths Across America, Attractions Dining and Value Guides, twice-per-year Belk Charity Sales events and "burger-burns" conducted by unit members at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport in conjunction with activities at the airport attended by the public.
