Change of Command Ceremony Will Install New Wing Commander

Lt Col David E. Crawford Will Take Command on July 14th

At 10:00 a.m. on Saturday 

July 14, 2012, NC Wing HQs., 3520 Alamance Rd., Burlington, Civil Air Patrol members and special guests will witness the change of command for the NC Wing. Lt. Col. John Kay, now serving as interim commander, will pass the ceremonial guidon to Lt. Col. David E. Crawford. Lt. Col Kay filled the office of Interim Commander when Wing Commander, Col. Roy Douglass accepted the position of Chief of Staff for CAP’s Middle East Region. Col. Larry Ragland, Middle East Region Commander, and Brig. Gen. Joseph Vazquez, National Vice Commander, will assist in the ceremony and the promotion of Lt. Col. Crawford to the rank of Colonel.

 

 

 

 Col. Crawford is a 30-year CAP veteran, having served in positions including assignments at the Squadron, Group, Wing, Region and National levels.  He is currently the commander of the Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron, which lists the highest membership totals in the NC Wing. During his tenure at Raleigh-Wake, the unit experienced a 20% growth in membership. His new command will include 1564 members (717 cadets, 847 seniors), 10 airplanes and a total of 39 units from Asheville to Elizabeth City to Beaufort and Southport.

Col. Crawford is a U.S. Army veteran, having been honorably discharged in 1998. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Information Systems from Northwest Nazarene University. He also received personal certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from Project Management Institute, in 2011. 

 
He is married to the former Jacquelyn M. Dyke of Brecksville, OH; and has one daughter, Michelle.
 
Col. Crawford is an Incident Commander with over 100 actual missions as IC, He is a Mission Pilot, Orientation Pilot, Ground Team Leader, Ground Team member, ARCHER operator, ARCHERTRAK Instructor and SDIS/ADIS Instructor. He holds Masters Ratings in Communications, Emergency Services, Information Technology and Plans and Programs.
